Mutts On A Mission

We are saddened once again to share that we lost another great therapy dog. Zoey and her owner/handler Natalie have been members of Mutts On A Mission for over 9 years. They were a great team and will be greatly missed.

To Natalie, Mutts On A Mission understands the sadness, heartache and the devastating feeling of loss you must feel. Zoey was a great little friend and therapy dog. Just remember all the smiles she brought.

Penelope, Cooper, Savannah, Bailey, Abbey and Nelli are all waiting to greet her!

Along with Jasz, Dink is also continuing his training by learning "Stay" and "Come". Here he is being put in a stay, followed up by remaining in the stay while his owner tossed a ball right past him. He then followed up with a "Come". This is another display of the growing level of influence the owner has over the dog, despite outside distractions!

Nice job Dink!

Two really important behaviors for dogs to master are "stay" and "come". As Jasz continues his training to become a therapy dog he has been practicing this a lot.

This video shows Jasz in a stay followed by a come that is given by a whistle from his owner. What you can't tell in the video is that Jasz is in the country surrounded by streams and ponds. All huge distractions making stay and come challenging.

This behavior demonstrates just how much influence the owner has over this young pup. Great progress!

As Jasper continues his training journey to becoming a therapy dog, his mom is teaching him "Place".

While this particular behavior or trick is NOT required to become a therapy dog, it does begin to establish and demonstrate a high degree of influence a handler has over the dog. You'll see that everything is off leash and everything is positive here. Keep in mind that Jasper is only six months old! Not bad Jasper!

Mutts On A Mission

Three great dogs + three great handlers = three great therapy dog teams bringing smiles and comfort to those at some of their most vulnerable times. These three fabulous mutts were honored posthumously this week with a brick laying ceremony at Cancer Treatment Centers of America.

Jude and her beloved dog Bailey, Elaine and her beloved dog Savannah and Kathleen and her beloved dog Cooper were all honored for their many years of service.

Collectively these teams have served the clients at CTCA for more than 28 years! That is surely an unmeasurable number of wags, nuzzles, cuddles, and smiles.

While these teams will be sorely missed we remain committed to the long standing relationship we have with CTCA.
---------------------------------------------------------
Here is the prayer that was offered by Pastor Robert (Bob) Bethke.

Father in Heaven,

Thank You for Your goodness toward us in thousands of ways every day. Today we want to celebrate Your goodness through the Therapy Dogs we have at this facility, and we especially want to remember three very special dogs that served us so well until last fall when they breathed their last time.

These three special dogs; Cooper, Bailey, and Savannah gave us the perfect example of what a Therapy Dog is all about. They were kind, selfless, warm-hearted, always ready for a hug or pat, always receptive to anyone, and a wonderful picture of God’s love toward us.

For these three dogs we want to give You thanks. Thank You for bringing them into our lives and the lives of countless people at CTCA. Thank You for giving them a heart for people, for their gentleness, and for being so amiable toward everyone they met.

Thank You for their handlers who loved them, cared for them, and brought them here time and again. I pray You would bring them comfort in the loss of these precious companions and encourage them to realize they and their dogs fulfilled a huge purpose in bringing joy to the lives of so many people.

May You, our Father, continue to raise up new dogs to replace the ones that have faithfully served us. May You bless our Therapy Dogs and their handlers who are here today, as well as those who could not be here today. May Your blessing be upon each of them as they embrace our patients, caregivers, families, and stakeholders who need a pick-me-up this and every day.

It’s in Christ’s name that we thank You and honor these precious animals and companions You have equipped them to be. Amen.

Have you ever wondered what it takes to become a therapy team? They say that therapy dogs are born, not made. BUT, it still takes a lot of training to get from puppy to therapy dog.

Mutts On A Mission has 3 puppies in the wings being trained right now, Lacey, Jazs, and Dink are learning all kinds of new things! Most of the training for puppies is centered around socialization, behavior and obedience.

We'll keep everyone updated as to their progress!

If you want some help figuring out if your puppy/dog has what it takes to become a therapy dog, give us a call or send us an email. We would be thrilled to help you!

Our contact information is within this facebook page.

Ohhhh.am so sorry..breaks my heart.

Savannah left a legacy of love and compassion - she will never be forgotten and is now running free of any pain . I can see her now sitting at the feet of Jesus eyes full of love 💖

The sweetest golden girl. She always knew who needed her the most and would pull Elaine to them. Cooper, Abby and Bailey were there to greet her. She is running free with all of them.
